All in one download Empty
PostSubject: All in one download   All in one download EmptyFri 8 Jun - 5:54

Well first of all, I am back. I was gone for a bit as I was extremely busy.

I have already downloaded everything previously and removed it all due to the many bugs in the old version of multiverse. I will be re-installing everything when I get my new computer because I don't want to do all the installing work for 2 months and I also want to start creating a game design document before I start anything.

I wanted to know, instead of having everything needed to be installed seperately, why don't we just place all of the files to be downloaded as a starter pack (JDK,mysql, client, platform, server). Updates to certain things can then be placed underneath so they can be installed separately. I believe it would be much simpler to just have a all in one package to download... and it would be easier to find since many people are not experts and it can get very confusing.

Multiverse can't ship MySQL and JDK because they're covered by other people's license agreements. If MV owned them there'd be no trouble.

Well sdk says that you can distribute them as long as your licensing agreement at least covers what is in there licensing agreement and as for mysql you can ship it for any open source project according to their license. As long as they are warned that for commercial purposes they would have to pay oracle for licensing if they are still using mysql...
and for sdk as long as we warn them about not being able to distribute it for commercial packages....

Also maybe it would be smart to moving to something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postgres

and opencl

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb226715.aspx

http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/licensing/index.html

Is it I that is understanding all of this incorectly?

Please further explain as I am still trying to learn.

At some point you'll be able to use either Postgres or MySQL, whichever you prefer. I've tinkered a bit with Postgres, but it still needs some work. I much prefer it because I know it better...

that would be cool because I think if we can simplify it it can lower the barier of entry a little because I had a lot of trouble at first (although I was able to fix my problems)
