"MV_HOME is not defined" Server Start Error Empty
PostSubject: "MV_HOME is not defined" Server Start Error   "MV_HOME is not defined" Server Start Error EmptyThu 14 Jun - 6:54

Hello,

First off I'd like to say hello to all. This is my first post and Multiverse seems like a really neat piece of software. Anyway, onto my troubles.

I followed the Getting Started Tutorial and have seemed to do everything correctly, but when I try to launch the server I get an error: "MV_HOME is not defined".

I'm not exactly how to define the MV_HOME directory on my machine.

I'm running Windows XP Pro x64. MySQL installed fine and I also got the other component for it. I already had JDK7 installed for another piece of software. I extracted the MV server myself using WinRAR to my compuers "C:\multiverse\" directory (which I created).

How do I fix this error and start my MV Server?

Also note, I am NOT using Cygwin.

I have had some experience with Linux and am thinking about just setting up a Linux server for my developments. Have an extra PC I could do this with. Might just do that, but first I wanted to see if I could get it working under Windows for some testing.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Cheers.

I haven't tried running the server on Windows yet, but what you probably need to do is set an environment variable.

Can't give you a click-by-click for XP, but it's probably similar to 7 -- On Windows 7 right click on "Computer" on the start menu, click "Advanced System Settings" in the list on the left, go to the "Advanced" tab, and click "Environment Variables" at the bottom. Add a new one called MV_HOME and set it to the path where you have your server package, such as C:\Users\yourname\Desktop\multiverse. Don't point to the bin directory, point to the directory one level above it.

On Linux it automatically sets that MV_HOME based on where you're running the start script from. I guess it must not do that on Windows... I really do need to run through the server setup on Windows to see where the stumbling points are.

Yes, Windows needed to have the environment varible set. Wasn't done by default. I'm trying it under Linux now so we will see how that turns out.

Thanks for your fast responce and help!
