Connect to Server?

Can't seem to figure out how to connect to a server once I have it up and running. The client always says "The multiverse servers are unavailable etc. go to the website and host your own." regardless... is there a way I can point it towards the IP address of my server or something? Sorry total noob.

there should be a world_settings.xml in
C:\Users\user\Documents\Multiverse World Browser\Config\

if not copy and paste the existing from client setup in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Multiverse Software Foundation\Multiverse Client\worlds\

I see the file, but I'm not sure I understand what it does. I'm assuming it's the puzzle piece that connects the client to the server, and that the URLS somehow point to the server on multiverse.net. I heard that the sampleworld servers aren't hosted by the official multiverse site since the company went under (not sure on the details) but that shouldn't be an issue because I have the basic server setup running on a VPS (slackware). I don't know all the details of the setup because my friend was the one who configured it but I have access to the server etc. and will be working with him to get it to work. Anyhow do you mind explaining what that file does, and if there's a way I can edit it to point to my own server instead so that it's able to find a working host?
